Smart Lock & Personal Storage FAQs

How are residents' personal belongings secured?
Each resident may be provided with a designated personal storage cabinet or lockable storage area for their belongings. The storage area is secured with a smart lock or keypad lock.

Will each resident have their own access code?
Yes. Each resident will receive an individual access code for their assigned personal storage area. Residents should keep their code private and should not share it with others.

Can another resident use my code?
No. Access codes are assigned to individual residents and should not be shared. Residents are expected to protect the privacy and security of their assigned storage area.

What happens if I forget my code?
Residents can contact the House Manager for assistance with resetting or recovering access to their assigned storage area.

What happens if I lose my code or believe someone knows it?
Notify the House Manager as soon as possible. The code may be changed or deactivated and a new code may be assigned.

Can Humanity Group Homes change or deactivate a resident's code?
Yes. Management may update, reset, or deactivate access codes when necessary for security, maintenance, a change in room assignment, or when a resident moves out.

Can staff access my personal storage area?
Management access may be maintained for legitimate purposes such as maintenance, repairs, emergencies, or other circumstances permitted by the resident agreement and applicable law. Residents' privacy and personal property will be respected.

Can residents share their storage area or access code?
No. Personal storage areas and access codes are assigned to individual residents and should not be shared without management approval.

Are the locks connected to Wi-Fi?
Where Wi-Fi-enabled smart locks are installed, the locks may be managed through a secure smart-lock system. Depending on the specific lock, management features may include individual access codes, temporary codes, access management, and activity records.

Can the system show when the storage area was accessed?
Some smart-lock systems provide time-stamped lock and unlock activity. Whether this feature is available will depend on the specific lock installed at the property.

What happens if the power, Wi-Fi, or batteries stop working?
Humanity Group Homes will maintain an appropriate backup access procedure. Residents should notify the House Manager if a lock is not working properly or if they cannot access their belongings.

Are residents responsible for their own belongings?
Residents are responsible for securing and taking reasonable care of their personal property. Residents should keep valuable items secure and report lost, stolen, or damaged property promptly.

Does the smart lock replace the home's other security measures?
No. Smart locks are one part of the property's overall safety and security procedures. Residents are still expected to follow all house rules regarding access, visitors, privacy, and personal property.

Why does Humanity Group Homes use individual access codes?
Individual access codes help provide residents with convenient, private access to their assigned space while allowing management to manage access when necessary.

Our Commitment to Resident Privacy

Humanity Group Homes believes residents should have a secure and respectful place for their personal belongings. Individual access codes and assigned storage areas are designed to provide residents with greater privacy, security, and peace of mind.
